Kestrel Aerospace was founded with the primary goal of developing and manufacturing critically needed munitions for the U.S. and allied militaries.  The ultralight aircraft design is primarily a side project for public cover.

The Long Range Light Autonomous Munition, aka "the Zipper", is a mass producible long range suicide drone to be used to destroy/deplete enemy air defense munitions prior to attacks by heavier weapon systems against the targets protected by such air defenses.

 

This project was proposed to the Air Force via the Small Business Innovation Research program in October 2024.  The key project summary slides from the submission are below.  Some administrative content has been removed for brevity.
